An In-Person Event

Poetry Day Ireland

There is a long standing tradition of poetic expression in the Buddhist East and over the centuries much has been written which is now available in English translation. Added to this there is a growing body of work written in English by westerners who are Buddhists or who have been influenced by Buddhism.

This year for Poetry Day Ireland Jnanadhara will be interviewing UK poet Vishvāntarā. Together they will explore a selection of Buddhist poems written in English and the way in which the poets articulate Buddhist ideas and insights through western forms, styles and traditions. The evening will conclude with a meditative evocation of the themes explored.

Vishvāntarā is a prize-winning poet (first prize in the Poetry London competition) who has been commended twice in the Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition. Her first pamphlet, Cursive, was brought out by Happenstance in 2015. She is a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order and lives in a residential Buddhist Community in East London. Vishvāntarā works as a piano teacher.

This event is free and open to anyone interested in Buddhism and/or poetry.
